Our Vision Therapy Centre
At our eye clinic, BeyondEye, our orthoptists offer a special service for children and adults alike: vision therapy. In vision therapy, you learn to manage eye movement disorders more effectively. For example, when it comes to strabismus or amblyopia.
The main aim of orthoptic therapy is to detect a visual impairment at an early stage, have it assessed by an ophthalmologist and then correct it with orthoptic treatment. This is because the earlier a visual impairment is detected, the more effectively it can be treated – thereby preventing long-term damage. We are able to treat even very young children, from around one to two years of age, using simple, playful exercises. Often, an abnormality has previously been identified during routine check-ups by paediatricians, and the child has been referred to us.
What does an orthoptist do?
Orthoptists are specially trained professionals working in an ophthalmologist’s practice. They treat children and adults when visual disturbances have been identified. These include, for example, squint, nystagmus or other forms of visual impairment. They can also treat eye movement disorders, paralysis of the eye muscles or double vision. Sometimes, accidents or strokes can lead to restricted fields of vision. There are tried-and-tested exercises for this, which are carried out under the guidance of an orthoptist.
We look forward to welcoming you or your child to our BeyondEye vision therapy centre! You can book an appointment by telephone on 0221/871050 or book online .
