Eye examinations carried out by an ophthalmologist generally consist of several specific tests designed to address particular issues, which are performed and documented using a standardised form. Among the most common are driving licence medical assessments, which are required, for example, to be allowed to drive lorries (over 3.5 tonnes) or to transport passengers. However, some employers also require an examination for computer-based work.
Our team, led by Dr Roxana Fulga, is here to support you with all of this and any further examinations. We can carry out the following ophthalmological assessments for you:
- Driving licence eye test for all categories
- Driving licence medical assessments for all categories (first issue and renewal)
- Assessment for the recreational boat licence
- Aero-medical examination
- Assessment for the purpose of claiming a blind person’s allowance or benefits for severe visual impairment
- Aptitude tests (police, fire service)
- Assessment of computer workstations
What is the procedure for an ophthalmological assessment?
Depending on the type of examination, several tests are usually carried out. During these, we assess the function of the eyes. This is followed by an assessment of the findings by the ophthalmologist. Examples of such examinations include:
- An eye test with and without corrective lenses
- An examination of the visual field
- A test of eye movement and coordination, and an examination for double vision
- A colour vision test
- Testing twilight or contrast vision
- A measurement of glare sensitivity
- An examination of the anterior and posterior segments of the eye using a slit lamp
At the end of an assessment, we will discuss all the findings with you in detail. We will then issue you with a certificate confirming the examinations carried out, provided you have passed all the tests in accordance with the requirements of the relevant assessment.
